It’s been a long time coming for an event like the Body Glove Moxie Pro Series. The amount of support and engagement for an all women competition like this has been absolutely incredible. Starting with the online submissions all the way to the championship stop at Terminus Wakepark, this series has been filled with some amazing riding that has shown the world that women’s cable riding has gained a new caliber of technicality and style.
Kicking off the final stop of the series, the day started off with plenty of activities including a Body Glove SUP morning yoga class, foods trucks, and free beer, which added some extra spice to the mix that made you reminisce about some of the pre-pandemic pro competitions that we all remember and love. As for the women in this contest, they knew the assignment and took it to a whole other level. You could tell from some of the practice sessions that the riders were pushing themselves and testing new lines to hopefully take home the gold. Aside from the competition itself, the level of support that each of the women competitors had for each other throughout the day was like nothing I have ever seen before. Win or lose, these women were cheering each other on and keeping the hype on the dock at an all-time high.
From heat to heat, there were some very close calls to decide who made it to finals. Eventually we had Rivers Hedrick, one of the world’s finest up-and-coming young women rippas, alongside the superstar German sender, Julia Rick, and the lovely technical genius, Jamie Lopina, as the three women in the finals heat. The 12-minute jam session was filled with plenty of ups and downs, as these ladies were giving the judges their very best and even throwing down some new tricks that I’ve never seen them try before. In the end, taking home the top spot and making her the two-time boat and cable Moxie Pro Champion, Jamie Lopina put on real show and ended up taking home the 1st place spot! With a very close score, right behind Jamie was the hometown hero herself, Rivers Hedrick, getting the 2nd place spot with her “give it your all” mentality on the water. This 15-year-old shredder is going to set a precedent for women’s riding in the years to come for sure. Last, but certainly not least, Julia Rick kept the crowd on their feet with her excellent composition when it came to her artistic mix of rails and kickers and ended up taking 3rd place in the finals.

All in all, I want to properly give a big congratulations to all of the women in this event who showed the wakeboard world that women’s cable riding is reaching new heights and that the support and ingenuity from each rider is going to help propel this area of the sport to a whole new level. Big thanks to Body Glove, Terminus Wakepark, Supra Boats, WakeWellUSA, Alliance Wake Magazine, and the other sponsors that helped make the whole event, as well as the series itself, something to remember and carry on for future women’s riding. Keep your eyes on the water for what these women will be bringing to the table for 2022. It’s going to be rad!
